i love flowers in the springtime
Okay, so here's the deal. I haven't seen anyone do this, yet, though I've seen talk of it, so I just figured I'd go ahead. I'm going to collect donations to make a contribution to the American Lung Association in Kim Manners' memory. This can be a fandom wide thing or a Supernatural fandom thing, or just for people on my flist. I'm not too concerned; I just want to do something.

ETA:

Thanks to all those who donated! I'm no longer collecting money, but if you still want to give in Kim Manners' name, the family has asked that they be made to The American Cancer Society, and that any correspondence be sent to:
Holly Ollis
Warner Bros. Television
4000 Warner Blvd.
Bldg 140, Rm 115
Burbank, CA 91522

I really, really, really do not want this to become an issue, so if someone is already doing this, I have no problem giving them whatever money is collected. If people think we should send flowers and make a donation, please let me know. Or if you have any other suggestions, let me know as well. I won't be attaching personal names to this - mine included - and will probably just sign it generically from Kim's Fans (or something to that effect. I haven't really worked it all out yet).

Again, if you have any suggestions on how to proceed with this, I'm all ears. I'll probably collect donations through Thursday or Friday.

Great idea. I've been trawling the net for updates for the Wiki and the only thing I've seen is a Gillian Anderson site doing something similar.

Wonderful idea! I saw that Gillian Anderson is doing this as well but I think that the more people who donate the better. Cancer is scary and hard thing to get through... I watched my grandmother battle it for years. Come payday I'll definitely be donating. *hugs* Keep up the great work!

*hugs* Ah, so is it actually Gillian Anderson or a fan site for her? Either way, I agree, the more, the better.

Will definitely contribute. And probably link to this entry in my update for the day. Is that okay? Thanks so much for doing this, babe. ♥

I have also linked this entry to my update today as I think it's a really wonderful idea. I know what you mean about wanting to do something, no matter how small.

Awesome. Can I suggest you crosspost at (or talk with) spn_postcards? I know they were considering something and they already havean enthusastic built-in audience. Thank you for coordinating.

Yes, actually, that's a great idea. It was mentioned that they were going to do something, but I checked and saw nothing about it over there, so I wanted to make sure something did actually get done about this. I'll go contact them right now.

here's a link to the Gillian Anderson inspired site I saw a few people mention below.

This is great. Thank you for taking the initiative!

Oh, cool, thanks for the link. Maybe I'll contact them about just making it one big donation. That seems easiest.

Donated. I wish I could've donated way more than I gave, but I'm on the tail end of my pay period. D:

You are LOVELY. I like this idea better than flowers. (Also, Jim Beaver's wife died of lung cancer, too, so it'll be doubly appreciated up in Vancouver, I think.)

Thanks for organising this! I was hoping there would be a way to make a contribution. I found this via [info]arabella_hope's post, and have donated.

I found this via riversbend, so thank you very much for setting this up. My dad died of lung cancer as well, and it was not easy. Money to a good cause is way better than flowers!

Glad to hear someone is doing this - I was wondering about it when I heard. Think it's an amazing thing to do in memory of an amazing individual.

I friended you if you end up posting how much was contributed and I also posted a link to this in my own journal. :)

Wonderful idea. My mom died of cancer when I was 15 and I almost lost my dad this past Christmas to Hodgkins, so this is near and dear to my heart.
