going to the chapel

So, I am getting married in five days! FIVE DAYS. Everything is basically done (meaning, food and booze and wedding license, so the rest is fluff), and Chris has off all week except today to finish the little stuff. We went to a wedding last Saturday that was meant to start at 6:30 and didn't get underway until after 8:00. We figure if we can just be on time, we'll be ahead of the game. Apparently, they were late because they had underestimated the time it would take to set up, and then the bride was very late to her hair/make-up stuff. I'm really glad we went with a venue that does everything for us, particularly, as I've learned from this endeavor that I am a control freak, but have zero desire to plan things. It's an interesting combination.

My hair is freshly died, I have a fake tan and my teeth are very white. I am easily the most fake I have ever or will ever be.

Also, my state is an awesome state at the moment: The Ohio State University, the University of Cincinnati (my alma matter), Xavier University (where I am currently a grad student), and Ohio University are ALL IN THE SWEET SIXTEEN. Four Ohio schools; two in my city! No matter what, at least one Ohio school is in the Elite Eight, as Cincy and OSU play each other Thursday night. My heart belongs to OSU football, but I'm definitely all about Cincinnati for basketball! It's sort of a win/win for me, though.

...Rather like the Fandom March Madness was a win/win. THOUGH, really, LESLIE KNOPE! I was so proud of fandom!

Also, I got a promotion at work, which, I, um, really didn't want - or well, I have some doubts about, we'll say, because I hate change and it puts me mostly on a campus I don't want to be on and it takes me out of the classroom and into administration (the ENEMY). BUT, I think I can do a good job, and there's no one else to do it. I'm accepting on an interim basis and if it's really not for me, I'll help them fill it and go back to my current position, which I love and am very good at.

I predict this week will be a good week, and then I'll be on a beach.

Congratulations, Jen and Chris! I hope your special day is as magical as you dreamed it would be. Hope you also have a great honeymoon, and I'd love to see wedding pics if you're willing to share! Will be thinking of you on the big day.

Congratulations, Jen!

Fake tan, fake teeth, fake hair, maybe, but the pictures will look damn good, and that's all that will matter in a couple of decades. ;-)

(I was deathly ill a week before our wedding and lost ten pounds. Had mostly recovered by the day of the ceremony... but looked really good in my white tie and tails.)

Along with having kids (and writing), I have to say, marriage is one of the most challenging and rewarding things there is. I know you'll both enjoy the journey.

(Speaking of your state, my eldest was just accepted to Kenyon. And given a nice scholarship. So we'll likely be headed out your way—well, the middle of the state, but still... Yay!)

I hope that you're having a wonderful time on the beach.
